  Writing a Store Newsletter

"If you don't like the news, go out and make some of your own."

Wes Nisker

If the thought of writing a Store newsletter makes you immediately start thinking about running away and hidingnewsletters (despite the fact you know you should write the newsletter) then the following is a list of possible articles or columns that make for great newsletter content:

  • Report on a recent buying trip
  • Pictures - as many as you can
  • Short stories - nothing longer than 250 words (ie half a page)
  • Message from the Owner
  • Pictures taken at market.  Get pictures with speakers, authors, designers.  They look great in a newsletter.
  • A book review of a book your customers might be interested in
  • An interview with a manufacturer or designer
  • An interview with a customer
  • Any changes that are taking place in the store
  • Announcements of new employees or departments
  • Any specials in the store
  • What's Hot in the Store
  • Schedule of upcoming events
  • Any holidays coming up.   Include crazy off the wall holidays and birthdays.   (Chases Calendar of Events from McGraw Hill is a wonderful publication for this!)
  • Contests or games for those competitive customers we all have.
For email newsletters have a look at Hi-Impact Email or Constant Contact.
